Why do we get anxious when it comes to #selfies is it the name? Is it the self-indulgence? Is it the exposure?
I’ve said that a selfie represents a moment in time when you felt beautiful and that that was something to celebrate... but this in particular photo I didn’t feel beautiful. I took it cause I was challenging myself. In fact, I am put-off by this photo in a lot of ways.
If I look at it in one moment I see someone trying too hard, in the next I see something artful, then I see just see shapes. I see my nostrils, which are different sizes, I see my tongue, which makes me feel uncomfortable, I see my eye, which reminds me how much I’ve changed over the years.
I also see that I probably chose this photo because the lighting makes my skin look A LOT smoother than it actually is.
This post really isn’t about this photo though, this post is about being open. Committing to vulnerability - and being honest about where I am at with that. I am challenging myself to continue to venture into vulnerability, and release my fear of being ugly - whatever that word really means... If you’ve read this far then I challenge you to step into your own vulnerability. You don’t need to jump off the deep end and submerge yourself, but take a step in. It won’t feel good at first, but stay in it. Stay open. ♠️ #vulnerability #selfportrait #beopen #selflove

I have so many odd feelings looking back on my wedding. It really feels like a little blip or a dream I’m remembering fragments parts of.
I feel like no one said that it would feel like this but I am absolutely certain they did. I have these thoughts like, ‘if I were to do it again I would do x, y, and z differently’ but that’s actually a load of bullshit, because the truth is it was a perfect day. The only day that all of the people we love were in the same room.
I felt happy, I felt beautiful, I felt loved, and I had fun. It really was perfect, but it was just a day. One day, and you can’t make one day last longer than 24 hours.

So here is what I will say to others if they’re feeling the same way as me, or if they have a wedding coming up... It is/was your day, but it is just one day. You did/will enjoy the shit out of it. It was/will be so fun and beautiful and emotional. It was/will be yours, and your memories of it, you get to keep those. They will last forever, so let that pressure for it to have been/to be a fairytale go, and let your memories be whatever they want to be.
It’s okay to feel weird about it, I’ve decided. But like everything, it’s all perspective and once my awkward feelings shift, I am looking forward to enjoying the memories ✨

There was a famous remark Einstein was said to have made:

The most important question we should ask ourselves is - is this a friendly universe or a cruel one?
This has always rattled me, thinking ‘what did he know that I don’t?’ Or ‘did he know the universe was cruel and there is something I should do?’ Or ‘what do I have to do to live in a friendly universe??’ Recently, it hit me. The answer to his question and all of mine... The universe has potential to be both cruel and kind, in fact it is both cruel and kind at this exact moment. What dictates which one we’re living in is our minds.
Our thoughts and perspectives shape our experiences - the same person can experience the same event and have polar opposite experiences.

There are so many variables in life we can’t control - people, environments, specific outcomes and occurrences - but with each and every one of these things we have control over our perspective on it.
Life is by no means a cake walk, it is by no means easy, there are ups and downs, hills, valleys, seemingly peak-less mountains and bottomless pits, but at the end of the day we have the opportunity to decide. To shape our relationship with our circumstances and choose whether the universe is friendly (even when it’s being a real bitch) or cruel. ♠️
